"The Night Before" by Coach Cap x Doe Boy Sumz-Review
Review by- Frank StarfyreOkay, okay, okay, I'll admit it, I didn't expect a Christmas record from Coach Cap and Doe boy Sumz. However, I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this considering we all grew up on "Christmas In Hollis" by Run DMC.
And that's the vibe this track, The Night Before, gives you. If you're an Old Head like me, it's a welcome vibe that I feel is sorely needed around this time. The production is tight and engineered to perfection by Coach Cap. You get the added goodness of Cap and Sumz bringing something different to the lyricism on
display.
For me, it brings a sense of whimsy and fun to what we Old Heads know is a song for the ladies. Cap raps in the first verse " Are you naughty or nice, your aura just right, got me smilin from ear to ear" immediately followed by "can I slide down your chimney, give you these gifts, give you some of this Christmas cheer" , which in my opinion are fantastic double entendre's by a solid wordsmith.
Sumz, not to be outdone, offers " fly across the world, to land at your door, heard your on the naughty list with pictures on my wall. " To hear this is to be shown that lyrics matter and that the reach of Hip Hop is truly far flung.
These two are emcees of the highest caliber, so it's not surprising they've taken " Twas The Night Before Christmas," and shaped it into something new and exciting.
A solid piece to add into the lexicon of Christmas Hip Hop . The Night Before is a banger in every sense of the word. Add this to your Christmas playlist and watch the family have a damn good time.
